Boiling Kettle

Using a ceramic kettle to heat water can add a special quality to your tea session and bring a more natural flow to the whole session…

Boiling kettle (or boiling side-handle teapot) is suitable for boiling water on charcoal, gas, or an infrared electric stove. It can also be used for maintaining temperature with an alcohol burner. When you opt for an electric or gas stove, please always use the stovetop heat diffuser, which comes along with the kettle. If you use the kettle without it, the kettle’s life span may be reduced significantly!

Please note that not all tea pots are suitable for boiling on a heat source! The boiling kettle must be made of flameproof clay, to be resistant to thermal shock. Before you start, please make sure that your kettle is suitable for this purpose.

The functional volume of the kettle is approximate. You need to try how much water will work best for you while using. I recommend the ideal of 3/4 of the maximum volume, no more than 3 cm below the edge. Otherwise, the water can overflow when boiling.

Please keep an eye on how much water is left in the kettle, and do not leave it on a heat source if there is not enough water in it. It is also wise to avoid thermal shocks as much as possible. For example, before you pour cold water into hot kettle, let the kettle cool for a while. If you need to put the kettle away from the heat source and it is still hot, place it on less thermally conductive surfaces such as wood, cork, reeds, or textile pads.

Be careful when operating with hot kettle, and pay attention to the escaping steam, which can burn you. For the best flow of water, while maintaining safety, I found directing the hole in the lid to the side worked best for me. If you boil water in the kettle for a long time, the handle may get hot. It is good to use a tea towel to handle it comfortably.

After use, when the kettle is empty but still warm from boiling, please leave the lid open to allow it dry well inside.
